ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/8 April) – A town councilor and an electric firm supervisor were killed Monday in two separate ambush incidents in the region, the police reported.
Killed were Councilor Arthur Buaya, 51, of Godod, Zamboanga del Norte and Genifer Llanes, 41, the Area-1 Member Development Officer of the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative-1.
Senior Supt. James Mejia, Zamboanga del Norte police director, reported that Buaya was killed in an ambush around 7 a.
m. Monday at Purok 2, Barangay Raba, Godod town.
Mejia said Buaya was driving his motorcycle on the way to the regular session of the municipal council when ambushed by five unidentified gunmen.
Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said Llanes was slain in an ambush 7:13 a.m. Monday.
Ecaldre said Llanes was driving his motorcycle towards the Zamsureco-1 sub-station in Barangay Switch, Ramon Magsaysay town when ambushed by four unidentified gunmen.
He said they were informed that Llanes and his family had recently transferred to Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, since the victim had been receiving death threats.
He said the Llanes family was previously staying in the nearby town of Don Victoriano, Misamis Occidental, where the latter’s wife ran but lost for mayor and has a pending protest against the sitting mayor. (MindaNews)
