DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/8 April) — A world-renowned neuropsychologist will give a seminar on brain-based therapy in Davao City on April 11 and 12, the Center of Psychological Extension and Research Services (Copers) said.
John Arden, director of training in mental health for Northern California, is known for his work in integrating neuroscience with psychotherapy, Copers said.
“Psychotherapy is an exciting new application that is likely to feature in mental health training programs in the years to come,” the group said.
Arden has written 10 books so far. His first – Consciousness, Dreams, and Self – was awarded the 1997 Outstanding Academic Book Award by Choice, a publication of the American Library Association.
More recently, he has published The Brain Bible and two volumes of Brain-Based Therapy for practitioners – those working with adults and those working with children and adolescents.
Copers said the seminar-workshop is open to psychological and mental health practitioners, educators, social workers, psychiatric services providers, students and parents who wish to understand the influence of neurology and brain hormones on behavior.
“Dr. Arden’s work spells hope in the treatment of behavioral difficulties due to traumatic brain injury and recovery from posttraumatic stress disorder and other conditions related to an imbalance in brain chemistry,” it added.
Registration fee is P2,500 with special rate for members of the Psychological Association of the Philippines at P2,300 and students at P1,100 exclusive of meals and kits.
Participants may register online through https://brainbasedtherapy2014.eventbrite.com. They may also call +62 822212411 local 8351 or send email to adducopers@outlook.com.
