DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 10 April) – The city has began distributing out cash assistance to the 3,547 victims of the fire that ravaged Barangays 22-C and 23-C last Friday.
The money came from the P45-million allocation approved by the city council in last Tuesday’s regular session from the local government’s quick response fund.
According to a copy of a briefer on the fire submitted by City Social Services and Development Officer assistant head Liwayway Caligdong to Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, the approved amount would cover cash assistance, as well as food and non-food items.
Caligdong said in a phone interview that the initial dole-outs will be given to the 2,235 victims whose houses were totally damaged and 44 partially damaged.
The house owners with totally damaged houses will receive P10,000 cash assistance each, totaling P22.35 million.
The cash assistance for the 44 renters is worth P5,000 each or a total of P220,000, and another P3,000 to boarders, sharers, and caretakers of the damaged homes. This amounts to P1.155 million in cash assistance.
The CSSDO will facilitate the distribution at the Mini-Forest evacuation center, which temporarily houses 1,655 families.
The report said that food assistance would cost the city P13.3 million and P3 million more for non-food items as clothing, cooking utensils, mats, etc.
