MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/21 March) — The low pressure area east of Mindanao has developed into a tropical depression and was named “Caloy”, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5:00 a.m. advisory Friday.
As of 4:00 a.m. Caloy was spotted 360 kilometers east of Davao City and was packing maximum winds of 45 kph near the center, Pagasa said.
The weather disturbance is expected to be at 180 km east of Davao City by Saturday, 40 km north of Kidapawan City by Sunday morning, and 180 km west of Davao City by Monday.
Winds of 30-60 kph are expected within the next 36 hours, it added.
The provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur and Compostela have been placed under Public Storm Warning Signal no. 1.
Pagasa warned residents in low-lying and mountainous areas in these provinces of possible flashfloods and landslides. (MindaNews)
