MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/21 March) – Seven more areas in Mindanao were placed under Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 as tropical depression “Caloy” accelerated as it moved closer to Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental at noon Friday.
These are Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Davao City, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, the northern part of Davao del Sur and North Cotabato, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11:00 a.m. advisory.
As of 5:00 a.m. Friday, only Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur were placed under Signal No. 1.
Caloy packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and moved westward at 11 kph, Pagasa said.
The weather disturbance is expected to be at 180 km east of Davao City by Saturday, 40 km north of Kidapawan City by Sunday morning, and 180 km west of Davao City by Monday.
Winds of 30-60 kph are expected within the next 36 hours, it added.
Pagasa warned residents in low-lying and mountainous areas where Caloy would pass of possible flashfloods and landslides. (MindaNews)
