DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/07 August) — The police chief of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has ordered the muzzle taping of all issued and licensed firearms of police personnel in the region to prevent indiscriminate firing during Eid’l Fitr, the end of Ramadan.
This year’s Eid’l Fitr is expected either on the 8th or 9th. President Aquino has declared August 9 a national holiday.
In his directive dated August 7, Chief Supt. Noel delos Reyes said “all muzzles of issued / licensed firearms” of personnel of the Police Regional Office in the ARMM “shall be taped immediately.”
“This is to prevent indiscriminate firing of guns by policemen during the said celebration,” the order read.
As of 2:43 p.m. Thursday, Delos Reyes told MindaNews that the Police Provincial Offices of Sulu and Basilan have complied with the order.
Fireworks and in a number of areas, the firing of guns usually greet Eid’l Fitr in the ARMM’s Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-tawi, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur. (MindaNews)
