ADDU grad tops CPA board exam

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 30 May) – A cum laude from Ateneo de Davao University topped this year’s Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination with an average rating of 96 percent.

Richard Saavedra was a consistent honor student during his stint at ADDU, a press statement from the university said.

The ADDU further claimed that this is the first time that a graduate of ADDU or any school in the Davao Region got the top spot in the CPA board exam.

Saavedra was second runnerup in the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants-Association of Certified Public Accountants in Commerce and Industry National Search for Outstanding Accounting Students in the Philippines in 2011 to 2012

He also placed first in the 2012 ADDU mock CPA board exam.

It was not Saavedra’s first topnotch performance in a board exam.

Prior to taking up accountancy in 2009, Saavedra had already earned a degree in nursing, graduating in 2007. In the Nursing Licensure Examination given in December 2007, he placed sixth.

Ong Abrantes (9th placer, October 2008 exam), Joseph Albert J. Bulao (3rd placer, October 2009), and Elfin Kenneth S. Puentespina (6th placer, October 2011).

ADDU has 24 passers out of 51 examinees, or a passing percentage of 47.06, the highest in the Davao Region. The national passing average in the CPA exam this year is only 27.41 percent.
