DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/17 February) — The weather bureau has warned of “moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms” in Caraga and Davao regions as a low pressure area (LPA) has been spotted east of Southern Mindanao.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its 5 p.m. advisory on Sunday said an LPA was spotted at 2 p.m. at 1,210 kilometers east of Southern Mindanao.
“The regions of Caraga and Davao will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of Mindanao will be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers or thunderstorms,” Pagasa said.
Caraga comprises the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands and the cities of Butuan, Cabadbaran, Bayugan, Surigao, Bislig and Tandag while Davao region comprises the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley and the cities of Davao, Tagum, Panabo, Island Garden City of Samal, Digos and Mati.
In its gale advisory, issued also at 5 p.m., Pagasa said “strong to gale force wind is expected to affect the seaboards of northern and eastern seaboards of the country”
It said the sea condition in the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao — Samar and Leyte Provinces, Surigao Provinces, Davao Oriental, Dinagat Island and Siargao – is “rough to very rough.” (MindaNews)
