ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/21 May) – A barangay official was unscathed while his son died in an ambush in a barangay east of this city, a police official said Monday.
Police Station 2 commander Chief Insp. Ricardo Garcia identified the fatality as Udi Amajad, 20, the son of Muti Barangay Kagawad, Abdilla.
Garcia said the elder Amajad was driving a motorcycle with his son on board towards the barangay hall of Muti when ambushed around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Garcia said the younger Amajad, who suffered a bullet wound in the head, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Cristino Paragas Memorial Hospital located in a nearby village.
Garcia identified the suspect in the ambush as Julham Mali, brother of the late Muti barangay kagawad Edgar Mali.
Edgar Mali was gunned down by motorcycle-riding gunmen last March 6 in Barangay Curuan, east of this city.
Garcia said Julham Mali suspected that Abdilla was involved in the killing of his brother.
Julham Mali has remained at large, the police official said. (MindaNews)
