KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/17 April) – An improvised explosive device was discovered Monday morning inside the compound of a farm lot owned by Mayor George Tan of Kabacan, North Cotabato, Army reports said.
Lt. Aries dela Cuadra of the 7th Infantry Battalion said that the explosive, fashioned from a 60-mm mortar, was discovered by a caretaker of the mayor’s farm in Barangay Katidtuan, Kabacan.
The identity of the caretaker was not made available.
Dela Cuadra said the bomb has no fuse attached to it and was possibly not meant to be exploded.
The explosive, placed inside a cellophane, was left near a used tire.
Authorities were clueless as to the identities of the perpetrators.
They said it is possible the bomb was meant for Tan, and it could also have been intended to threaten the caretaker. (Malu Cadelina Manar/MindaNews)
