MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/28 March) ¬– Presidential Adviser on Environmental Protection Nereus “Neric” Acosta will be one of two speakers of the Bukidnon State University’s 78th Commencement Exercises Thursday.
Dante Victoria, university secretary, said BSU will have two graduation rites to cut the length of the ceremony, veering away from the practice in previous years that extended up to evening.
Acosta will speak in the afternoon schedule before graduates of the College of Teacher Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Graduate School.
Acosta, also the chair of the Laguna Lake Development Authority, is serving a 90-day preventive suspension ordered by the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division last month in relation to his case of alleged misuse of his then congressional pork barrel funds. In a statement issued to reporters following the suspension, Acosta said he will submit to the process and abide by the court order.
Acosta did not respond to a query by MindaNews about the status of the suspension.
Victoria said they invited Acosta to speak way back in December and did not withdraw the same even with the suspension.
Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chair Patricia Licuanan, the other speaker, will be the guest of honor in the morning schedule of the graduation ceremonies.
Central Mindanao University president Ma. Luisa Soliven confirmed that they have invited Abante Mindanao party-list Rep. Max Rodriguez to be their guest speaker on April 11.
Dr. Chliejvferwyn C. Catolico, Mountain View College vice president for academic affairs, said they invited Lamoiyan Corporation president Cecilio K. Pedro as their guest speaker last Monday. Lamoiyan Corporation produces Hapee toothpaste. (Walter I. Balane / MindaNews)
