DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/29 Dec) – The Information and Communication Technology-Davao is planning to link river monitors to a platform that could send disaster alerts through text messages so residents could immediately respond and evacuate when threats of flood arise.
Erriberto P. Barriga Jr., executive vice president of ICT-Davao, said during the weekly Club 888 forum at Marco Polo Davao Hotel on Wednesday that they are currently finalizing the concept that will be presented to Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio for approval.
“It is one proactive measure to prevent loss of lives and damage to properties in the future,” he said.
At present, the messages from the river sensors are only relayed through Smart to the Public Safety Command Center. Once the plan is pursued, the information can be forwarded to the barangay level and down to the household owners regardless of their cellphones’ network.
He said the platform developed by Mynd Consulting, the firm headed by Myrna Padilla, will be tapped for its implementation.
The messages from the river sensors situated in the upstream of Davao River will be relayed through the platform which is eyed to be dubbed as Citizen’s Watch, Barriga added.
He explained that it is a social media platform that would be created as a mobile application. He said it could be applied to ordinary mobile phones. A vivid and detailed information can also be uploaded if one has an Android phone.
