LANUZA, Surigao del Sur (MindaNews/16 Nov) – This town is gearing up for a surfing festival slated on November 21-26.
Vice Mayor Algerio H. Irizari said the local government is doing everything to ensure success for the series of activities for this year’s event.
Lanuza, a rustic coastal town eight kilometers from the capital town of Tandag, is a favorite destination for longboard surfers. This year’s competition is on its seventh year, featuring Filipino and foreign surfers.
This year’s competition has four categories: Men’s Open for 18 years of age and above; Junior Open (15-18); Grommet (9-14); and Wahine (Hawaiian term for woman) Division.
Sanctioned by Philippine Surfing Federation (PSF), up for grabs is the total prize of P300,000 plus trophies.
Irizari said they expect 150 to 200 surfers to join in this year’s competition.
Aside from surfing, the town will also simultaneously stage its agri-aqua fair, beach dancing competition, cultural show and surf clinic.
A nightly musical band will also entertain the guests throughout the festivities.
Irazari said surfing professionals around the country will grace the competition. (Roel N. Catoto / MindaNews)
