Reports reaching Brig. Gen. Leo Ferrer, chief of the Army’s 601st Infantry Brigade based in Tacurong City, said armed men wearing bonnets shot the victims face down in what is believed to be a robbery with homicide case.
According to the report, an estimated 20 armed men wearing bonnets arrived in Sitio Lubonon, Barangay Midtongok, shot the family members and away P40,000 cash, grocery items and two chainsaws. Another report said only five armed men perpetrated the crime.
The victims were identified as Julie Fegurac, 48 and other Fegurak family members Josephine, 47; Jonahtan, 23 and Jerso, 20; and Benjamin Pelitro, 35.
The armed men withdrew towards Palembang, Sultan Kudarat. Joint forces of 46th Infantry Battalion and the municipal police station of Senator Ninoy Aquino town, are conducting investigation and pursuit operations. The victims were brought by government forces to the barangay hall of Midtongok, the report to Ferrer said.
Fr. Roberto Layson, parish priest of Kulaman in Senator Ninoy Aquino town, told MindaNews in a telephone interview that based on what the police said, the motive behind the killing was robbery.
He said the report from the police was that the armed men numbered five. The family reportedly owned a store and had just delivered their products, hence the huge amount.
Layson said the police report also noted that based on the empty shells found in the crime scene, the killers used armalite and garand rifles. (MindaNews)
