KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/30 Sept) – The city police director, Supt. Chino Mamburam, received on Tuesday his cash incentive and a certificate from the Metro Bank Foundation, Inc., for being one of the 17 finalists to this year’s Search for the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS).
The search for COPS is a joint undertaking of the Rotary Club of New Manila East and the Metrobank Foundation, in close coordination with the Philippine National Police.
Mamburam, a bemedaled police officer, received the P20,000 check and certificate from Metrobank Kidapawan branch manager Helen Tan. The simple turnover was held inside the bank around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Mamburam said that while he failed to grab the top award, being a finalist is already an honor in itself.
Of the 91 nominations the Foundation has received for this year, eight commissioned officers and nine non-commissioned officers made it to the rigorous screening process, including Mamburam.
The city police director became the second police officer from Kidapawan City who was chosen as finalist to the Metrobank’s Search for COPS since 2005.
In 2007, retired Senior Police Officer 4 Sevillo Enoc, then head of the Police Community Relations of the Kidapawan City PNP, was also among the top 17 finalists.
According to the web site of the Metrobank Foundation, the award seeks to identify gallant men and women in the police force who are able to work with the community to prevent and solve crimes.
Every year, four commissioned officers, and six non-commissioned officers win this prestigious award.
Aside from Mamburam, four of the 17 finalists were from Mindanao — Supt. Florencio T. Ortilla and Supt. Noel R. Ponsaran from Davao City for the commissioned police officers’ category; and PO3 Zoraida M. Aripin from Zamboanga City and PO3 Roel P. Paclibar from Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat for the non-commissioned police officers’ category.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee composed of representatives from the PNP, government, non-government organizations and the Rotary Club. (Malu Cadeliña Manar / MindaNews)
