MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/13 August) – – Central Mindanao University’s search committee for president on Monday presented six candidates for the university’s top post in a forum at the CMU Farmers’ Training Center.
The six applicants are Dr. Palasig Ampang, president of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM); Dr. Aldegario Gonzales of Western Mindanao State University; Dr. Lordino Cabigon, CMU’s vice president for administration;
Dr. Alexander Campaner of Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST); Dr. Ma. Luisa Soliven, CMU’s vice president for academic affairs; and Dr. Elpedio Bautista, president of Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT).
The candidates faced the CMU community to articulate their positions on key university issues. Among the sensitive questions raised in the forum was on the land conflict between the university and ancestral domain and agrarian reform claimants within the 3,000-hectare campus.
Gideon Cabahug, CMU dean of students told MindaNews via SMS the CMU board of regents is set to vote on their choice.
“There’s a new CMU president by the end of August,” he added.
All six applicants presented their proposed programs as they answered questions from the faculty, the students, and the non-teaching staff during the open forum.
The winner will succeed the late Dr. Mardonio Lao, who died of illness before his term ended.
Dr. Rodrigo Malunhao was appointed officer-in-charge after Lao’s death. But he has not recovered yet from a coma caused by a stroke.
Bukidnon State University president Dr. Victor Barroso is concurrently serving as CMU officer-in-charge.
The forum was the final step in the CMU presidency selection process, just ahead of the board vote. (Walter I. Balane/MindaNews)
