Rene Ronquillo, Hedcor president and chief operating officer, said that contrary to perceptions, the DCWD can get better water if it taps the company’s pipeline.
Ronquillo explained that this is because they will get their water from an elevation of 540 meters which is higher than that of banana plantations.
The DCWD's plan is to tap water from an elevation of 400 meters which is below the banana plantations.
Ronquillo added the DCWD can also save P100 million by tapping Hedcor’s pipeline instead of building a similar 5-kilometer structure.
The DCWD has filed a formal protest with the National Water Resources Board and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources against the building of the hydropower plant in Tamugan River.
Hedcor’s pipeline can supply water at 10 cubic meters per second. The DCWD needs to generate four cubic meters of water per second.
Ronquillo, however, said that Hedcor and DCWD can coexist.
Hedcor yesterday presented its plan to build a power plant to the city council. (MindaNews)
