Calabia said they are preparing a total of 16 sports events, which are all "subject for approval". She also added that these events are different from those organized by the Davao City Sports Council Inc (DCSCI), a group composed of regional chapter heads of the various National Sports Association (NSA).
Last year, the SDD had also organized the same number of events including an invitational commercial basketball tournament that features two ball clubs from Cebu City and one apiece from Ozamiz City and Province of North Cotabato.
City Administrator Wendel Avisado earlier announced that the prestigious swing for a cause Metro Davao Sports Association (MEDSA) Mayor's Cup Golf Invitational Tournament is one of the sporting highlights in the weeklong celebration.
The golfest, which tentatively set on August 17 -18 at the Apo Golf and Country Club, aims to raise fund for the benefit of the Gawad Kalinga Home Development Program which has been the main beneficiary of the golfest since it was organized a few years back.
Meanwhile, DCSCI is organizing twelve sports events but it is still finalizing the six of which, according to its president Vic Sai. The final six events include chess, table tennis, basketball, triathlon, swimming and fun run.
He said all the events will start on August 15 and ends on August 20. The fun run will be open to 3-kilometers for 12 and 16 years old and under and 5-kilometer for 30 to 40, 40 to 50 and 51 years old and above. (Rico Biliran/MindaNews)
