Duran, an executive of the Florida-based Military Commercial Technologies Inc., said a boxing academy would help potential boxers in Mindanao to develop their skills.
“There are plenty of young potential boxers not just in Davao City but in the whole island of Mindanao. They only need support and we are here to provide that needed aid, “said Duran who wishes to make Mindanao a boxing haven in the south.
The American sports patron is optimistic that “this (plan) can be done with the support of the government and corporate grants”.
He said he has already established linkage and obtained pledges from several private firms, including the New City Commercial Cent
er (NCCC), that are interested to help develop future boxing superstar.
Duran hails the NCCC saying "we thank the NCCC for its gracious support to the boxers".
Last month, Aileen Gajo, NCCC Public relations officer said in a text message that the company still provides grocery items and vitamins to some 30 boxers housed at the Almendras Gym.

Duran, who first visited Davao City two years ago, said he and Darren Evangelista, a known swimming organizer, will spearhead a grassroots development program to discover new potential boxers who could be a future world champion.
