National chess arbiter and this city’s coordinator of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Lorenzo Cuizon said they extended the invitation to GM Paragua during his recent visit to this city for a simultaneous chess tournament against 60 players.
Paragua has promised to grace the affair according to Cuizon.
This year’s edition of the annual chess tournament, which is a team competition, has drawn the interests of some of the country’s top players including those from Mindanao. Cash prizes and trophies are at stake in the tournament.
The champion gets P12, 000 and a trophy while the 1st runner up receives P7,000 and trophy and 2nd runner up P3,000 and trophy. The 4th runner up will receive a P2,000 prize.
The teams are composed of 4 regular players and an alternate. The first two board players are Class A players while the next two board players belong to Class B.
The 7-round Swiss System will be adopted with the pairing will be computerized using a manager program.
The sports events is one of the sports activities lined up as part of the activities in celebration of the city’s fiesta.(MindaNews)
