The event, which has produced the likes of GM's Nelson Mariano II and Mark Paragua, will feature aspiring woodpushers vying for top honors in juniors' (20 years old and below) and kiddies' (14-under). Newly appointed Davao leg coordinator National Arbiter Ronnie Tabudlong has asked those interested to participate to register early to avoid.
Tabudlong pointed out that they would only accept the first 500 participants who will register. A total of 132 have already registered as of July 25 of which 117 are in the Kiddies division and 15 in the juniors.
Seven-rounds swiss system format will be used in the two-day chessfest sponsored by Filipina Shell Petroleum Corporation which is committed to serve the cause of nation-building, the continuing involvement in this sport is part of its commitment to contribute to the over-all development and growth of the Filipino youth.
The top three finishers in both juniors and kiddies will advance to the grand finals slated October 21-22 at the SM City North Edsa Entertainment Plaza in Manila.
Aside from the berth to the national finals, they will also get cash prizes of P4, 000 to the champion and P3, 000 and P2, 000 for the first and second runner-up, respectively.
