A fully-laden habal-habal speeds past oil palms on February 3, 2014 in Senator Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat. These plants dot the Kulaman Valley landscape, competing for space with growths of corn, rice, coffee, and rubber. Expensive to maintain, oil palms are planted only by wealthy migrant settlers and are beyond the capacity of the indigenous Dulangan Manobo. MindaNews photo by BJ A. Patiño
