KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/30 July) — The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has released some P124 million as payment for the unpaid salaries of 2,017 school teachers in the region.
The unpaid salaries date back to 2008, according to the region’s Bureau of Public Information.
The teachers received their checks last week.
BPI-ARMM said the payment went to 1,106 elementary and 292 high school teachers as well as 619 teachers on probationary status.
The release of checks held at the Shariff Kabungsuwan Cultural Center inside the ORC compound was witnessed by Acting ARMM Governor Ansarudin Adiong, DepEd ARMM regional secretary Baratocal Caudang, and ARMM Executive Secretary Naguib Sinarimbo.
Caudang told reporters that when he assumed as DepEd regional secretary, Adiong issued him a “marching order to rid the agency of irregularities” that have plagued the regional education administration for years.
Adiong was appointed acting ARMM governor in mid-December 2009 after Gov.
Zaldy Ampatuan was detained as one of the principal suspects in the Nov.
