Quoting witnesses, firemen said a leaking liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank could have caused the fire.
Mayor Muslimin Sema and his aide, Boy dela Fuente, immediately rushed to the fire scene upon learning of the incident.
There were no reported injuries.
Residents in the neighborhood, including elderly occupants of the Bahay Maria, a home for the aged built by the Catholic church, evacuated.
