Hiso said one of two unidentified motorcycle-riding men lobbed the grenade inside the church, at around 1230 p.m., on Saturday.
Earlier, the police said the attacks against the INC could be part of a plot of an armed group out to sow terror in North Cotabato.
But today, Hiso said the motive could be “more than that” and that they are studying another angle which he did not elaborate on as doing so might derail their investigation.
He ruled out extortion as the motive.
“The church ministers have all said they have not received any extortion threat from whatever group. So it’s not extortion,” he stressed.
The attack on Saturday was the fourth against the INC in the province since November 2008.
On November 27, an improvised explosive device was recovered in front of the INC church in nearby Kabacan town, also in North Cotabato. A similar bomb was found in the same building on November 30.
On January 7, a grenade went off inside the same church.
No one was hurt in any of those incidents, police said. (Malu Cadelina Manar/MindaNews)
