Farmers in these villages blamed the irrigation canal that overflowed, affecting their farmlands. Pigcawayan mayor Herminio Roquero immediately ordered agriculture officials to inspect the affected ricefields to determine the extent of damage. The mayor also instructed the municipal social welfare and development office to extend assistance to the farmers affected by the flashfloods. Meanwhile, the provincial agriculture office is urging municipal agriculturists in the province to monitor their respective areas for areas susceptible to flash floods. In North Cotabato the towns of Mlang, Tulunan and some areas of Makilala and Matalam are flood-prone during rainy days. These towns are surrounded by rivers that overflow when heavy rains occur.
