The NCC and the DOST have donated 10 computers for this town’s community electronic center (CEC), complete with Internet connection.
The municipal government, under the leadership of Mayor Efren Piñol, has allocated P250,000 for the establishment of the CEC and internet connection at the ground floor of the town hall in Barangay Poblacion.
The CEC, said Piñol, is to enable this remote town to promote its tourism potentials — with its beautifu l scenery and tourist spots, like the various waterfalls and tarsier sanctuaries — through the Internet. Esther Amores-Roque, the mayor’s secretary, said the towns’ tourism office has documented 27 waterfalls and three tarsier sanctuaries in the area, mostly from barangays Imamaling, Sallab and Don Panaca.
“Through the help of modern technology, especially the Internet, perhaps we could convince local and international tourists to come and visit Magpet,” the mayor said.
Piñol added that this would also give an opportunity to overseas Filipino workers from Magpet to be updated with various developments in their hometown.
“We have so many constituents working abroad. The establishment of CEC would give them the opportunity to know and even communicate with their relatives using the Internet,” he said.
Roque said the CEC, through the town’s website, would be featuring local news stories. (Williamor A. Magbanua / MindaNews)
