DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/05 June) – Heavy rains Wednesday nights turned parts of downtown Davao City into a virtual river and caused power outage and water interruption in the Matina-Bangkal area
The heavy downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning at around 7 p.m., also caused power outage in the Matina-Bangkal area for nearly two hours, from 7:46 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and water interruption as well in several parts of the city.
At 8:45p.m., portions of Quirino Avenue, particularly near the vicinity of Mabini and Tiongco streets, turned into a virtual river, causing a major traffic jam.
A tree at the corner of flooded Torres and Mabini streets was uprooted.
Some vehicles en route to Quirino Avenue from Mabini St. were forced to turn around and pass through the Circumferential Road leading to Bacaca, causing a traffic jam en route to El Rio Subdivision.
The city’s Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) posted at 9 p.m. the following areas as flooded: Ecoland Phase 2, 4 and 7, SM area and Quimpo Blvd., R. Castillo, Bankerohan, near Magsaysay Park, Marfori and Matina highway.
DRRMO also noted the slight water level rise of Davao River.
