ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/02 May)) – Two passengers were killed while 10 others, including the driver and conductor, were injured when their bus overturned along the national highway in Zamboanga Sibugay province, the police reported Monday.
The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Office reported that the incident took place around 8 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Silingan, R.T. Lim town.
Police identified the dead passengers as Alex Akmad of Parang, Maguindanao and Romeo Mariano of Impasugong, Bukidnon.
Investigation showed that Rural Transit of Mindanao Inc. bus with body number 9350 coming from Pagadian City and driven by Vergel Beltran swerved and overturned while running down a curve in Silingan.
The bus was carrying 10 passengers.
Quoting Beltran, RTMI terminal-in-charge Efren dela Cruz said that the bus swerved and overturned when the driver tried to avoid an old man who was crossing the highway.
“The bus swerved to its left and turned turtle killing two of the 10 passengers and injured the others,” Dela Cruz said.
He added that they consider that place in Silingan an accident-prone area.
“Parang may mga engkanto sa lugar na iyon, (It seems there are supernatural beings in that place)” Dela Cruz said, citing those who had met accident there claimed to have seen either a man, woman or child suddenly crossing the highway.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital in Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay. (MindaNews)
