ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/01 May) – The ancestral home of House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar and two other houses were razed to the ground early Sunday.
The wooden house owned by the late Vice Mayor Jose Climaco, is being used by Salazar, the city’s first district representative, as her stockroom for bags, tee-shirts, slippers and other items that she distributes to indigents.
The two other houses, also made of wood, were rented by Mimi Retino, owner of the pub, Blue Diamond Disco.
Retino occupied one of the two houses while the other was occupied by her workers at the pub.
Fire Officer 1 (FO1) Jerry Dapa, the case investigator, said the fire started shortly after midnight from the house occupied by Retino and ate up the two neighboring houses.
Dapa said the cause of the fire was faulty electrical wiring, saying the electric wires at the house occupied by Retino were already brittle.
The initial estimate of property damaged during the fire was placed at P500,000, Dapa said.
