ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/27 September) – Four people, including a four-year-old boy, were massacred in a remote barangay of Zamboanga del Sur province, a police official disclosed Tuesday.
Zamboanga del Sur police director Senior Supt. Jose Bayani Gucela said the incident took place around 5 a.m. Monday in Barangay Bogayo, Kumalarang town.
Gucela identified the victims as Elizabeth Ybanez, 58, widow, and her granddaughters Cherry Mae saquilabon, 16, and Karen Andojo, 23, and nephew Jhon Ryan Celario, 4.
The victims succumbed to multiple hack and stab wounds, he said.
The police official said investigation showed the victims were asleep inside their house when the attack happened.
He said the suspects carted away P4,000 cash, two mobile phones and one silver necklace.
The victims were discovered dead by their neighbors, who went to check the victims’ house four hours after the incident since they did not see them go out though it was already 9 a.m., he said.
The neighbors told the local police that they heard a commotion around 5 a.m. at the victims’ residence but no one bothered to check thinking it was only a petty quarrel, Gucela said. (MindaNews)
