Tangub City’s Edward Paul Paler won the gold in secondary’ boy’s shot put Wednesday afternoon in the 2008 Palarong Pambansa in this city dubbed “City in the Forest.” His golden performance copped Northern Mindanao’s first gold medal after three days of hostilities at the newly-refurbished Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex here, dominated by Western Visayas and National Capital Region. Paler threw to a distance of 11.74 meters to clinch the valuable gold medal which he dedicated to his public school teacher-father. National Capital Region’s Randolf Hernandez took the silver with 11.38 meters while Calabarzon’s Russel Dave Lozano pocketed the bronze with 11.23 meters. Paler, who wants to be a policeman, moved to athletics from taekwondo “because there are lots of good taekwondo players and it took me a hard time to be able to play in the Palarong Pambansa”. “Im very happy now that I was able to play in the Palaro and won a gold medal, “said Paler who completed his secondary grades at the Tangub City National High School last month. “It’s a dream come true for me, “ he said.
