Extension of IMT tour of duty dependent on peace talks progress

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/23 April) –The tour of duty of the Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao, the team that oversees the implementation of the ceasefire between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) expires on August 31 this year and may not be extended if there is no significant progress in the GRP-MILF peace talks Malaysia is facilitating.

Davao City most populated among 27 Mindanao provinces and 33 cities

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/23 April) – Davao City is the lone Mindanawon city to have reached a population of more than one million, according to the 2007 Philippine Census of Population (Popcen 2007).

Within Mindanao’s 27 provinces and 33 cities, however, Davao City’s 1,363,337 population is the highest, data from the Census showed.
