The Mabuhay Technopark Corp. was one of two applicants to develop IT parks here. Ellorence Cruz, BOI coordinator here confirmed the PEZA approval last Thursday.
Cruz said the company will launch its project in January within a three-hectare area in the heart of the city. Mabuhay is a private-led initiative, envisioned to be the shining landmark for the ICT business in the city.
"Mabuhay is set to take a leap that will mark GenSan's entry into the ICT sector," Cruz said.
The IT park will serve as "a one-stop facility capable of carrying voice, video and data services that would deliver a superior, reliable and secured network communications and back-up power supply,” she said.
The park will also have a so-called "incubation center", consisting of nine "intelligent offices" – four small-sized offices and two large- sized offices – and support facilities such as three conference facilities and training rooms, mini-exhibition hall, and a cafeteria.
Mabuhay park locators will get income tax holidays from four to six years and imported equipment that would be brought in to the park would be duty free, she said.
The other applicant was Mindanao Polytechnic College.
The two applications will place this city in the map of IT locations outside Metro Manila. IT parks are ideal in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry such as call centers, medical transcription, animation, architectural and engineering design, among others.
Dorecita Delima, deputy director of the Department of Trade and Industry-Central Mindanao, said the IT parks will get assistance from the local government and her office as well.
Mayor Pedro Acharon, Jr. said the city's pool of "quality human resources, the low cost of doing business and the presence of needed support systems such as telecommunication, accommodation and infrastructure facilities" will attract BPO players.
"The city also offers incentives for all ICT investor," he saids." There are already transcription companies and independent software vendors that are operating in the city,” he said. (MindaNews)
