No order for evacuees to return home but…

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/04 February) – No order. But…

There is no order for evacuees to return home, the mayor’s executive assistant and an Army official in Datu Piang, Maguindanao, said.

In a report, the Mindanao Tulong Bakwet (MTB), an organization that attends to the needs of the evacuees, quoted Musib Tan,  executive assistant to the Datu Piang mayor, as saying that they did not coerce the evacuees to return home but “encouraged” those whose places of origin have been declared “safe” by the military, to return home.

Mindanawon peace advocate is Ninoy Aquino Fellow for Public Service

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/04 February) —  A Mindanawon peace advocate is this year’s Ninoy Aquino Fellow for Public Service. 

Lawyer Mary Ann Arnado, secretary-general of the Mindanao Peoples’ Caucus (MPC) will be awarded the fellowship at noon of February 5 at the Rigodon I of the Peninsula Manila hotel.

The selection of Ninoy Aquino Fellows for Public Service and Journalism, is an annual project of the US Embassy in Manila.

Syndicates using kids to sell drugs in NorthCot – PDEA

KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/2 Feb) — Syndicates in Kabacan, North Cotabato are using minors in selling drugs, the Philippine Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 12 has confirmed.

Retired Col. Rene Orbe, PDEA 12 regional director, in fact, refers to the youngsters as “Alamang boys” in reference to the widely reported “Alabang boys” also said to be involved in drug pushing.

Barangay councils first line of defense vs plantations
