DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 18 February) – One house and three establishments were destroyed by fire in Barangay 76-A Bucana Davao City at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Capt. Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson for Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said the fire started from the two-story house of Michelle Bolos, a 43-year-old businesswoman, and immediately spread to adjacent establishments.
She said the children of Bolos were roused from sleep when they heard their mother shouting for help from the second floor.
She said the family immediately asked for help from their neighbors to help put out the fire and immediately called Davao City Central 911 for rescue.
Tuazon said based on the result of the initial investigation of the authorities, the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
She said fire responders, including volunteers from different organizations and personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao, came to help extinguish the fire. Authorities declared “fire out” at 3:55 a.m.
The damage to properties was estimated at P270,000, she said.
Tuazon said that no one was seriously injured from the incident, except forBolos and a certain John Stephen Sebastian, 26, construction worker, who sustained minor injuries on the lower back and a swelling on the right wrist, respectively.
She said the fire immediately spread to adjacent structures because they were made of light materials. (Antonio B. Colina IV / MindaNews)
