DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 17 Deember) – Seventeen of 28 provinces in Mindanao have been placed under Storm Signal 1 as of 5 p.m. Sunday, as tropical depression ‘Kabayan’ moved westward “slowly,” with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h, according to Tropical Cyclone Bulletin 5 of the state weather bureau.
The center of Tropical Depression KABAYAN was estimated based on all available data at385 km East of Davao City, Davao del Sur or 315 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, as of 5 pm.. Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

‘Kabayan’ is expected to make landfall along the coast of Surigao del Sur or Davao Oriental Sunday evening or early Monday morning. The tropical depression is forecast to be 130 km east southeast of Hinatuan by 2 a.m. on Monday, December 18, over the coastal waters of Laguindingan in Misamis Oriental by 2 p.m. and 295 km west of Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental by 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

Dujali, City of Panabo, Asuncion, City of Tagum, Talaingod, Carmen, Kapalong, San Isidro), Davao del Sur (Davao City); Northern Mindanao: Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental; Region 12 or Soccsksargen: Cotabato (Arakan, Carmen, Banisilan, Alamada, President Roxas, Kabacan, Matalam, Antipas, Magpet); and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao: Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte (Buldon, Barira, Matanog).
