ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/ 30 July)— Eight students from Zamboanga City bagged awards in the 8th Global SPEAK Competition held in Singapore.
The winning graders from Mindanao are: Alessandro Chan and Syd Spencer Teo, bronze medals in the English category; Yuanyuan Shi, gold medal; Audrey Janelle Chua, silver medal; Andrea Torres, Margaelli Vernice Lim, and Lynette Go, bronze medals in the Mandarin category. The seven winners are from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School.
Chantal Paige Vargas of Ateneo de Zamboanga University grade school department, the only Filipino who joined in the team competition, received an award of excellence.
Elementary and high school students from different countries joined the contest in English and in Mandarin.
The competition hosted this year by Science Center Singapore brought together excelling students in language skills, specifically in English and Mandarin.
Philippine delegation head Mico Ventus said Team Philippines won 14 medals, nine in the English Category, and five in the Mandarin Category.
The other winners in the English Category are: Angela Claire Tan of Living Faith Academy in Tarlac, and Isabel Goyena of St. Paul College in Pasig City—both gold; Yelena Maria Delena of Colegio San Agustin in Makati City, Gabrielle Micha Co of St. Jude Catholic School in Manila City, and Ryan Vincent Dy of Xavier School in San Juan City—all silver; Patricia Elizabeth Yu of St. Jude Catholic School in Manila City, and Rydel Ridley of St. Stephen’s High School in Manila City—who received a bronze medal each.
