COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 06 February) – Police operatives here arrested early Tuesday morning a village official and two others for alleged possession of illegal drugs and high-powered firearms.
Chief Inspector Allan Uy, speaking for the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-ARMM), identified the suspects as Sadat Ayunan, village councilman of Barangay Kalanganan Mother, Cotabato City, and his companions Abdillah Ibrahim and Kusin Inaogan.
Uy said CIDG agents backed by the Cotabato City police and elements of Army’s Special Forces Battalion, barged inside the house of Ayunan at about 5 a.m. and presented him the search warrant.
The suspect did not resist arrest.
Recovered from Ayunan’s home were an Armalite rifle, 12 gauge shot guns, rifle grenade, fragmentation grenade, three cal. 45 pistols, a cal. 38 revolver and ammunition, Uy said.
The police official said the raiding team also found four sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride with an estimated market value of over P30,000.
He said that prior to the arrest Ayunan was placed under surveillance and found to be in possession of high powered guns. The CIDG-ARMM, he said, verified with Camp Crame, the national PNP headquarters, and found out Ayunan has no authority to possess guns.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act) and Republic Act 10591 or the law against illegal possession of firearms and explosives are being prepared against the village official. (Ferdinandh B. Cabrera/MindaNews)
