SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews/17 March) – A total of 73 fire incidents happened in Surigao del Norte last year, the provincial office of the Bureau of Fire Protection said.
According to a report from BFP-Surigao del Norte, 47 of these fire incidents happened in Surigao City last year while the rest occurred in eight towns in the province.
Fire Officer 3 Rogelio D. Logronio said the fire incidents in the city last year damaged at least P6.5 million in properties.
He said electrical short circuit was the most common cause of those incidents.
Of the towns hit by fire incidents, Tagana-an topped the list with six incidents, followed by Dapa, Claver, Placer, Alegria, Del Carmen Mainit and Socorro.
In the last five years, the biggest fire incident in the province in terms of damage to property happened on October 3, 2011 when communist rebels attacked three mining companies and burned dozens of heavy equipment the total value of which was pegged at P1.1 billion. (Roel N. Catoto/MindaNews)
