ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/12 August) – The City Health Office recorded 2,166 dengue cases with 15 mortalities January to July this year, a health official disclosed.
City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos, however, said the number is lower by 110 cases compared to the 2,276 cases for the same period last year where 14 patients died.
Agbulos said they have embarked on weekly clean-up drives to destroy the breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
He said the continuous clean-up drives resulted to the reduction of cases to 387 in July from 540 in June, the month that registered the highest number of cases.
He said that last year, 379 dengue cases were recorded in the month of June, also the highest for the period.
He explained this is due to the onset of the rainy season during the month of June every year.
He said March had the lowest number of dengue cases for the past seven months this year with 143, while for the same period last year it was April with 259 cases.
The following is the monthly breakdown of dengue cases for this year: January, 295; February, 224; March, 143; April, 203; May, 374; June, 540; and, July, 387.
For last year, the monthly breakdown is as follows: January, 352; February, 345; March, 327; April, 259; May, 333; June, 379; and, July, 281. (MindaNews)
