ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews / 15 January) – Authorities have intercepted at the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) Wednesday a shipment of at least 200 grams of high-grade shabu with an estimated market value of P1 million.
Wednesday’s interception was the third shipment to be made at ZIA coming from Manila that was uncovered.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Director Jeffrey Bangsa said the shabu shipment was intercepted around 8:15 a.m. at the airport’s check-in area.
He said the shipment, which arrived here Tuesday from Manila, was bound for Jolo, Sulu. Its point of origin is Las Piñas City.
Bangsa said the shipper is a certain Abdusahar while the consignee is a certain Nadzmer.
He said the shabu was wrapped in black plastic, placed in three coffee packs and packed in a five-kilogram box of a courier firm.
He said it was uncovered by the personnel of the Office of the Transport Security (OTS) of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) after the box was subjected for inspection through X-ray scan machine.
Upon discovery, the OTS immediately notified the Aviation Security Group (AVSEGroup) personnel headed by Senior Insp. Reycar Bassig and the PDEA.
The first incident was on Nov. 8 with the confiscation of at least 19 kilograms of shabu with an estimated value of P180 million. It was reportedly bound for Malaysia.
The second confiscation was last Nov. 21 with an estimated P3-million worth of shabu bound for Tawi-Tawi.
