ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/22 April) – Second district Rep. Erico Basilio Fabian has condemned the gun-slay of the top aide of his party mate and congressional candidate even as he called for a thorough probe of the killing.
Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot and killed Rahman Ramdi, 35, the top aide of Councilor Lilia Nuño, shortly after 8 p.
m. Friday near the Chinese cemetery in Barangay San Roque.
Fabian, who is in his last term of office and a Nacionalista Party stalwart, is running for mayor while Nuño is seeking the House post for the second district.
Both are running under the Fuerza Zamboanga, a local political party.
Ramdi was on the way home to Barangay Cawit coming from a political rally in Barangay Lunzuran when he was shot and killed after stopping to talk to a woman near the Chinese cemetery.
He was rushed to the Western Mindanao Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Fabian expressed dismay over the incident but emphasized that it will not stop them from campaigning.
“I and my party mates expressed our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Rahman and call on the police for a speedy solution of the case and give justice to the family,” Fabian said.
Nuño also strongly called on the police for a speedy solution of the case and put the perpetrators behind bars as she expressed outrage over the killing of her aide.
Both officials however did not say if the incident was politically-motivated.
