RDC-12 pushes P3B Sultan Kudarat-Sarangani coastal road project
”
“It would open opportunities for employment and a productive economy, thus will improve the quality of life of the beneficiary communities, and improve peace and order condition in the area,” cited the resolution, which was signed by RDC-12 chairperson and City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio.
A briefer from the RDC-12’s infrastructure committee (Infracom) said the Kalamansig-Palimbang-Maitum road, which is part of the second phase of the Southwestern Mindanao Road Project, would mainly connect the coastal areas in the provinces of Sarangani and Sultan Kudarat to the other parts of Region 12 and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
It said the road network will specifically link up the area with Maguindanao and the greater Cotabato area (Cotabato City and North Cotabato) in the north as well as South Cotabato province and this city in the southern part of Region 12.
Region 12 comprises the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, North Cotabato and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Tacurong, Kidapawan and Cotabato.
Alfredo Hebrona Jr., RDC-12 Infracom chair, said the project involves the construction and improvement of 113.28 kilometers of roads from Kalamansig town all the way to Palimbang town in Sultan Kudarat and towards the junction of the Maitum-Lake Sebu road in Maitum, Sarangani.
It covers the construction of six bridges with a total length of 122 linear meters located along the Kalamansig-Palimbang section and drainages along the entire road stretch, he noted.
In its resolution, the council said it found the proposed project consistent with the “overarching development goals of inclusive growth and poverty alleviation” as cited in the Soccsksargen Regional Development Pla
n for 2011-2016.
It said the project complements with the plan’s goals of providing opportunities for increased productivity and incomes as well as access to quality basic services through efficient infrastructure facilities.
The council said the road project was included in the Soccsksargen Regional Development Investment Program for 2011-2016 and had been identified as one of the “Kilos Abante” or flagship projects of the region.
It also supports the Regional Agri-Industrial and Eco-Tourism Corridor Development spatial development strategy of Region 12 based on the Regional Physical Framework Plan for 2004-2030, specifically along the coastal development zones in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat and Maasim in Sarangani province.
