ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/20 September) – Joint police and military forces have killed three suspected Abu Sayyaf members in a raid today that resulted in the rescue of a Chinese national in this city, the police reported Thursday.
Rescued was Jampong Lin-Yuankai, 38, who is into iron ore business.
Jampong – along with another Chinese national identified as Jian Luo, 48 – was kidnapped by six gunmen last June 4 from their rented house in Barangay F. L. Peña, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Initial police reports said that Jampong was rescued when the troops raided around 10:30 a.m. Thursday the bandits’ lair in Sitio Dulian, Barangay Calabasa, this city.
The raid was carried out following intelligence reports of the kidnappers’ presence in the place, the police said.
A 15-minute firefight broke out that resulted in the death of three Abu Sayyaf members, police said.
The slain bandits were reportedly followers of Ajijul Temeng, a mid-level Abu Sayyaf leader operating under the group of Khai Mundos,
Jampong and Jian, both natives of Guandong, China, are into iron ore business for the past several years and had been frequenting the town of Kabasalan where they do business.
Jian was released at one of the local hotels last August 26 after reportedly paying P5 million in ransom. (MindaNews)
