DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/20 April) – Two soldiers were wounded when suspected New People’s Army rebels ambushed their vehicles on their way to pick up medical personnel in Sitio Kibalang, Barangay Gumitan, Marilog District on Thursday evening.[]
Lt. Colonel Gabriel Viray, commanding officer of the 84th Infantry Battalion based in Marilog declined to identify the victims.[]
There were no reports of civilians injured in the encounter that lasted at least 30 minutes.
Viray said rebels attacked two military trucks on their way to fetch medical personnel waiting in Marilog District Hospital for a three-day medical mission and feeding activities.[]
The two soldiers were confined at Robillo Medical Clinic in Calinan District.
“This is a wanton act of the rebels who do not want the needed basic services delivered to far-flung barangays of the city,” Viray said.
He said that they will continue their peace effort and development activities despite the incident. (MindaNews)
