MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/06 November) The Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative has offered to pay the city government P14 million in tax arrears since 2004, City Councilor Roland Deticio said.
Buseco has offered to pay a down payment of P5 million and P3 million per year from 2012 to 2013, Deticio said.
Buseco’s tax delinquency covers P 9.059 million real property taxes and P 4.981 million in penalties
The City Treasurer’s Office served Buseco a final demand notice on Oct. 6 for immediate payment of 50 percent or P7 million. The Buseco management was reported to have negotiated for a smaller initial payment.
City Treasurer Danilo Linoay informed the City Council on Oct. 25 about Buseco’s plan to pay on a staggered basis, which is still subject to the approval of the mayor.
Buseco is also paying about P21 million to the provincial government. The other Bukidnon electric cooperative, First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative, also owes the province P37 million.
Fr. Danilo Paciente, member of the Buseco board, told MindaNews earlier that electric cooperatives have no other option but pass on to consumers the amount it will spend on taxes.
“Consumers will really react to this once they know the implications,” he said. (Walter I. Balane/MindaNews)
