ZAMBOANGA CITY – A soldier and two bandits, died while three others were wounded in a 15-minute clash Tuesday evening off shore Zamboanga City. Col. Buenaventura Pascual, Task Force Zamboanga commander, said.
Pascual said the the 12th Division Reconnaissance Company troops chanced upon four bandits aboard a motorized banca while they were on patrol at around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday off the coast of Barangay Taluksangay, 19 kilometers east of this city.
A soldier identified only as Cpl.
Sacayam died while undergoing treatment at the Zamboanga Doctor’s Hospital, he said.
Injured were Private First Class (PFC) Tomo, PFC Sahibudin, and PFC Biala.
Two of the four bandits were killed and their remains were brought by their other two companions to Sacol Island, 54 kilometers east of this city, Pascual said.
Pascual said the bandits are followers of Yusop Apdin based in Sacol island and whose group are responsible for piracy in the area.
