DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 18 Feb) – Five tennis clubs in Davao City have so far confirmed to battle it out in this year’s Araw ng Dabaw Tennis Tournament to be organized by the Philippine Tennis Association (PhilTA)-Davao next month.
During the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) forum on Thursday at SM City, PhilTA-Davao vice president Juanito Cansino Jr. said that initial list of participating clubs include Toril Tennis Club, Flores Village Tennis, Club, Eco 4 Tennis Club, Eco 2 Tennis Club, and Gem Village Tennis Clubs.
He said the registration is ongoing until Saturday, February 20.
Cansino said that the players who will slug it out in the game are the “best of the best”, comprised of professional or class A players.
“Collegiate players are also allowed to join, for as long as they would be under a certain tennis club,” he said.
Each team consists of seven players.
The tournament will open on March 5 while the championship battle is slated on March 16 in time for this year’s Araw ng Dabaw celebration.
“The champion will receive a trophy and cash prize but we cannot ascertain how much, pending the complete list of clubs who will participate,” he said.
The venue of the tennis games has yet to be finalized but it will be in different places around the city, according to Cansino.
