Ace athletes from Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Davao City will dispute for top honors in 14 sport events in the three-day meet which serves as selection basis for the region's delegation to the National PRISAA Championships in Zamboanga City.
"We are ready for the regional PRISAA meet," declared Joaquin Sarabia, Davao Region PRISAA executive director, following their board meeting today at the Holy Cross of Davao College conference room.
Acting Mayor Sara Duterte is the invited guest to grace the opening rites which is set at 9 a.m. at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina campus gym.
Games will start 1 p.m., according to Sarabia.
All the events will played at the UM Matina campus except for swimming and soccer which will be contested at the Davao College of Southern Philippines swimming pool and Tionko football field, respectively.
Vocal solo and the search for Mutya ng PRISAA, which are part of the national PRISAA calendar of events, will take center stage on March 14 at 7 p.m. also at the UM Matina gym.
Meanwhile, the national PRISAA meet has been moved to April 8 to 14, reported Sarabia during the board meeting which was presided by Davao Region and DC PRISAA president Pedro San Jose.
UM and Holy Cross of Davao College athletes will be at the forefront of Davao City in the medal rich athletics and swimming events as well as in chess, table tennis and volleyball.
UM Wildcats will carry Davao City's color in the men's basketball while its counterpart, the Cardinals, in the women's contest. (Rico Biliran / MindaNews)
